Butte des Morts Country Club

Course Information

Butte des Morts is conveniently located in Appleton just east of Highway 41, at the corner of Prospect Avenue/BB and Bluemound Drive.  Exit Prospect Avenue (BB) off Highway 41 and head east until you reach Bluemound Drive.  Take a left (north) at the corner.  Our main entrance is located on Bluemound Drive.

Butte des Morts is a Spikeless Facility

The benefits of having a "spikeless" golf course are many. The most noticeable benefit is the condition of the putting greens, but less wear and tear on Golf carts, cart paths, bridges, parking lots and carpeting are also evident. It is for these reasons that Butte des Morts has converted to a spikeless facility.

If you desire to have your metal spikes changed to soft spikes, please plan on arriving at least an hour prior to your starting time to allow our staff enough time to make the change. There is a nominal fee for this service. Thank you for your cooperation and we are sure you will notice the differences during your round.

Dress Code

Appropriate Country Club attire is required of all participants. Men must wear shirts with collars. Blue jeans, cut off jeans, short shorts, tennis shorts, coaches shorts, jogging shorts, swimming trunks, and tee shirts are not considered appropriate. Shirts must be worn at all areas of the club, practice ranges and golf course.

Men are requested not to wear hats, visors, etc in the clubhouse. Women are required to dress in appropriate country club attire. Tank tops, halter tops, short shorts, blue jeans, and cut-off jeans are not considered appropriate. Shoes must be worn at all times in the cocktail lounge and dining rooms.

Other BDM Club Policies

Each player must have their own set of golf clubs. Our Golf Professionals will help you if you need rental sets.

Our pace of play policy allows 4 hours and 20 minutes for an 18 hole round of golf. This pace of play policy may allow for more time if the size of the outing exceeds 100 players.

Please use proper golf etiquette at all times. Replace all divots, repair all ball marks, and rake all sand traps.

Players must be 18 years of age, and possess a valid drivers license to operate a motorized golf cart. Only 2 players may ride in a golf cart.

Please observe where golf carts are permitted to operate. Keep the golf carts outside the lined areas around each of our greens. Any damages to a golf cart or other property of Butte des Morts Country Club will be billed in full to the golf outing or outing sponsor.

All Food & Beverages consumed on Butte des Morts property must be purchased through Butte des Morts.  Your own coolers and refreshments are not permitted.

 Bag Drop

Upon arrival please drop your clubs off at the bag drop area which is at the center of the north side of the parking lot.  An attendant will take your clubs to the pro shop area.  Please identify your host so your clubs can be assigned to carts or caddies.  Then you may check in at the pro shop and go to the locker room.

The Men's and Ladies' locker rooms may be accessed through the eastside entrance or the rear door of the pro shop.  The locker room attendant will assign you a locker after you identify your host.

If you have any questions or comments about the club, please contact the club manager.  We hope you enjoy yourself while at Butte des Morts and look forward to seeing you again.

Driving Range, Practice Green and Putting Green are available.  Please inquire at the pro shop.

Course History

Old Clubhouse Circa 1965

Once the farmland acreage of the late Frank Hammes and Peter Fleming, Butte des Morts has developed over the years into one of the finest clubs in the state of Wisconsin. In 1923, a group of local citizens sensed a need for another golf club in the Appleton area. By 1924 the land had been purchased, the famed golf architect, W. C. Jackson of Chicago contracted, and the labor pains of Butte des Morts Golf Club began. The early work on the golf course, such as tree removal and landscaping, was all done by horses and hands. By late spring of 1924, Butte des Morts' longtime greenskeeper, Jack Taylor, had spread the first grass seed. Over the years, Butte des Morts flourished and grew, even surviving the Great Depression. We are proud of our strong and diverse membership. Butte des Morts has been truly a vital part of our Members' lives.
